Meet Kelly.

Read on to learn more. She may just be the perfect sitter you’ve been looking for.

Hello! My name is Kelly. I’m from Indianapolis and went to North Central. I have a degree in Nonprofit Management from IU Bloomington. I’ve worked at a non-profit community organization for those with disabilities and special needs as a Job Coach since graduating from college. I live in Indy with my boyfriend and two cats. I like watching movies, baking, and traveling.

How did you hear about Synapse Sitters and what made you want to join?

My coworker showed me a magazine article about Synapse Sitters. I joined because I grew up in a family very much impacted by my sister’s disability, and I understand the challenges and how important it is to have supportive people around. I’d like to support the family as well as the child.

What do you find to be the most rewarding about babysitting and connecting with families who have children with special needs?

I found that volunteering with kids who have special needs made me feel part of a larger community. That was a new feeling because growing up I didn’t know other people with a similar family situation. I’m very patient and want the best for the people I work with, so I really enjoy helping people with their goals. I work with young adults with special needs in an employment training program. I think having an older sibling with autism made me naturally able to read expressions and adapt a situation to avoid stress. I feel that I’ve seen the stress my parents have had trying to find babysitters qualified to work with my sister, and it was hard. I think families would appreciate that I understand their child’s differences in a way that can be hard for others.

Do you have a babysitting hack?

I think clear expectations are important. If the child can be a part of the decision making process, that helps.

What’s something fun you like to do?

I really like to swim and play tennis. I also just tried beginning yoga.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

I couldn’t live without TV! I love Netflix and HBO.

Wow! Kelly is truly a superstar.  Join HERE to connect with and book Kelly as your new sitter today!
