Family Spotlight-Lataisha

Lataisha is a parent of a 10-year-old boy with Autism and has had great success finding a sitter on Synapse Sitters. Through Synapse Sitters, she was able to find a Respite Caregiver for her son. They have continued to work together through the Medicaid Waiver.  Lataisha talks about her family and her experience with Synapse Sitters in the interview below. Read our last blog to learn more about what exactly a respite caregiver can offer.

Tell us about your family.

My family consists of me, my 10-year-old son with Autism, and my 23 year old, neuro-typical son

What is your favorite thing (or few things) about your family and children?

I grew up with 2 brothers, my favorite thing about my family is that with 2 sons, my home is always full of energy and life.

What are some things that you love doing with your family in the Indianapolis area?

Things we enjoy doing in Indy are going to movies, going to community events, and going to the State Fair every year.

What lesson(s) do you think that people with special needs can teach everyone?

People with special needs can teach us to see other perspectives on small, everyday happenings. My son has definitely taught me that.

What is your favorite thing about Synapse Sitters?

My favorite thing about Synapse Sitters is the price; it’s very reasonable.

What experiences have you had with getting care before Synapse Sitters?

Before Synapse Sitters, I had trouble finding a sitter willing to work with me utilizing the Medicaid Waiver program.

How did Synapse Sitters compare to previous care? What were the differences that stood out to you?

With Synapse Sitters, it was really nice to find someone who was familiar with the Medicaid Waiver. Through Synapse Sitters I was able to find someone who already had experience with the requirements of the program.

Talk a little about how you were able to get your sitter from Synapse Sitter to become your respite caregiver.

When I initially signed up for Synapse Sitters, I stated on my profile that I was looking for someone familiar with Medicaid Waiver and willing to be hired as my respite caregiver. The first few people I communicated with didn’t pan out, but I was very fortunate to find the sitter who I hired. She’s very dependable.

Do you have anything else that you would like to share with our community?

Synapse Sitters is a must-have resource for ALL families in the special needs community.
