What is Respite Care?
The option for a Respite Caregiver is coming to Synapse Sitters! But wait, what even is a Respite Caregiver? You may have been asked to become a respite caregiver for a family or have heard about respite and never given it much thought.
So, let’s start with the basics:
What does Respite even mean? The definition of respite is ‘a short period of rest or relief from something.’
So, then what is a Respite Caregiver? Basically, a babysitter. The “caregiver” is giving the families a break for any reason!
But how does this differ from the regular sitter option on Synapse Sitters? The parent and sitter connect in the same way through Synapse Sitters. The main difference is the system that the sitter is paid through. Some families receive funds through a waiver and some of those funds can be used to pay for a Respite Caregiver. However, due to the huge shortage of caregivers, these funds often go unused. For sitters, becoming a Respite Caregiver allows families to use these funds rather than paying out of pocket. Basically, it is just a different way of getting paid for being a sitter!
Did Synapse Sitters just get that much better? Yes, yes it did!
These opportunities offer more ways to pay a sitter and more ways to get paid as a sitter! It’s a win-win!
