We provide qualified candidates and the network to connect.  You choose who you want to work with, when you are available, as well as how much you will pay/earn.  We know choosing the right caregiver or family to work with can be a daunting and overwhelming task, so let us help simplify it!

Synapse Sitters is on online networking community.  We are not a placement agency and we do not endorse nor place Sitters with Families.  Our objective is to help connect Families and Specialized Sitters.
We provide the tools and resources for Parents and Sitters to connect using our innovative and secure online network.  Both parties independently decide if they would like to work together.  We do not work with insurance companies or accept the Medicaid Waiver.
Even though our sitters are specialized, please remember that they are there to care for your children; they are not there to provide therapies.

Create your profile and request your optional background check for a one time fee of just $21.50 (additional fees may apply). Tell us about yourself and the types of families you enjoy working with.

Once approved, you’ll have access to our family members. Browse their profiles and see who will be a great fit.

Our goal is to connect families of special needs children with specialized sitters.  In order to do so, our sitters must either be pursuing or have already earned a degree in a "human service" field, or must be currently employed within a "human service" field.  To maintain the security of our network, all information sitters submit is verified during the sign up process.  Once all information is confirmed, our sitters will then have access to our families. Examples of these requirements, but not limited to, are listed below.

Educational Requirements

  • Speech Language Pathology
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Nursing
  • Special Education
  • Elementary Education
  • Psychology
  • Biology
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Child Life

Work Experience

  • ABA experience
  • Teacher
  • Instructional Assistant/Paraeducator
  • Speech Therapist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Nurse

Our sitters typically work with children who have:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Down Syndrome
  • ADHD
  • Asperger Syndrome
  • Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Behavioral and emotional needs
  • Speech disorders

We have partnered with Safe Hiring Solutions to offer expanded background checks for our sitter members. These reports are optional, although we do highly recommend each sitter to request one during or prior to the interview and hiring process. Sitters that obtain and pass these reports will have preferred listing status.  Background checks cost a low one time fee of $21.50 + any additional fees during the verification process. Additional fees may occur depending on previous addresses and any additional county court costs to release info.

Background Checks Include:

  • SSN Verification
  • Sex Offender Registry
  • National and County Criminal Record Check
  • Federal Criminal Search
  • Criminal Searches based on 7 year address history (additional fees may apply)

For security purposes, it is best to avoid using a mobile device or tablet when requesting your background check.

We feel our sitters offer value since they must pass our expanded background check and qualify as a member.

We are not a placement agency, so parents and sitters mutually decide to work together and agree upon date, time, and pay rate without paying any additional fees. Payment is made to our sitters directly. We suggest the Venmo app.

However, to ensure we are attracting the best candidates we highly encourage parents and sitters to follow the suggested pay rates below:

  • Low Needs – $11/hr
  • Moderate Needs – $13/hr
  • High Needs – $15/hr
  • +$1/hr per additional child

Please discuss with your family what need category they feel the child falls under. What one may consider moderate needs, the other may feel is actually low needs.

The key to a successful working relationship is TRANSPARENCY. Please be respectfully upfront about expectations. Starting off on the right foot ensures a rewarding and lasting relationship and more opportunities for additional income.
